Laverne Cox now has her own Barbie doll, which she describes as a “dream come true”.
To commemorate the Emmy Award-winning actress’s 50th birthday, Barbie announced Wednesday that a Tribute Collection doll would be released.
Laverne Cox has become one of the iconic dolls to commemorate her achievements in the LGBTQIA+ community, launching Mattel’s first transgender Barbie.
“I can’t wait for my doll to be on shelves and for fans to add a Barbie doll modeled after a transgender person to their collection,” she said in a statement. “I can’t believe it,” the actress, producer and writer told People of her “surreal” experience.
Cox is proud that Barbie can show children that “there is hope and possibility for them to be themselves.” He cited recent anti-trans legislation and discrimination against trans children.

The ‘Orange is the New Black’ actress has yet to achieve another milestone. Additionally, the actor, producer, reality star, and LGBTQ activist was thrilled to receive the doll. “It has been a dream of mine for years to work with Barbie to create my own doll,” he said. In an interview with People, Cox said that Barbie shows children that “there is hope and possibility for them to be themselves.”
