Phillip Lazaro, a 51-year-old Filipino comedian and director, passed away on July 11. His death was first announced by the regional newspaper GMA News Online, which received confirmation from Lázaro’s nephew, Chico Lázaro Alinell.
The day before Lázaro passed away, his nephew reportedly went to see him at his house and saw that the middle-aged comedian was having trouble breathing. Lázaro reportedly died as a result of various organ failures, according to another account. However, the root cause of organ failure is currently not understood by the general public.
Lazaro’s family is expected to host a wake shortly and release additional information about his passing, according to GMA News Online.
What was Phillip Lazaro famous for before his death?
Born Felicisimo Saavedra Lazaro, Phillip Lazaro was well known in the Philippines as a comedian turned director turned actor. He is known for his participation in the productions of Prima Donnas and Bawal na Game Show, among others. The Manila Times states that the deceased, 51, performed comedy performances at The Library Comedy Bar & Restaurant in Manila.
According to his IMDb page, Lázaro made his acting debut in 1995 with a single, fleeting appearance on the regional television show Villa Quintana. The seasoned comedian made appearances in similar roles on Philippine television series from the mid-1990s to 2000. He returned to these roles in 2009 after a brief hiatus of almost ten years.
He played public relations in over 50 episodes of That’s My Amboy in 2016. He played Phillip in five episodes of Nagbabagang luha in 2021, which was his last performance. Lázaro has a career spanning more than 25 years and has worked on almost 30 different projects.
Lázaro had also served as director on numerous occasions. These include all 63 episodes of Bawal na Game Show, a Filipino competition show on TV5. Between 2020 and 2021, he apparently directed a few episodes of the show. Additionally, he had directed four episodes of the television series Dear Uge.

Numerous members of his family, friends, and other associates paid tribute to him on social media after his passing. Lázaro’s nephew, Chico Lázaro Alinell, meanwhile posted on Facebook to remember the late actor and comedian.

Phillip Lazaro was one of the first comedians I ever saw live and he really wowed me. I was 15, I was on Klownz Quezon Avenue, and the lineup of comedy queens and comedians was incredible, but Phillip was right up there with him. The news of his passing saddens me.

Phillip Lazaro was one of the first comedians I saw perform live, and he absolutely wowed me, another user commented. The comedic queens and stand-up comedians on the Klownz Quezon Avenue lineup when I was 15 were amazing, but Phillip was in a league of his own. I am sorry to hear about his passing.
