It’s been almost a year since the fifth season of Rick and Morty premiered. However, the beloved grandfather-grandson duo will return for its sixth season.

When will Rick and Morty season 6 be released?

The official Rick and Morty cable network, Adult Swim, confirmed on Wednesday, July 27, that mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith will return for its sixth season.

Additionally, they revealed that Rick and Morty season 6 is scheduled to release this year on Sunday, September 4.

The final season will air at 11 pm ET. Additionally, new episodes of the Emmy Award-winning animated series will premiere weekly.

The official Rick and Morty Twitter user announced the news on the platform.

They shared a photo of the duo with ‘cut abs’ and wrote the caption, ‘Worn and ready: Season 6 arrives September 4’.

Meanwhile, Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and The Cartoon Network shared a statement regarding the show’s return.

He said: ‘It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon. As we prepare to launch this next iconic season, we’ll be giving fans a unique way to be a part of the fun…so keep your eyes peeled.”

What will be the plot of Season 6?

The previous season of Rick and Morty concluded on a cliffhanger.

In the final two-part episode, we saw Evil Morty break through the Central Finite Curve, a wall that obstructed the different multiverses where Rick wasn’t the smartest man on Earth.

The episode ended with Evil Morty going through a portal, implying that he was searching for a universe that Rick didn’t control. This opened up multiple possible futures for the show’s next story and characters.

Regardless, according to the synopsis for season six, Rick and Morty could be heading towards imminent death.
