Red Hot Chili Peppers pay tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins at the 2022 VMAs

The Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated their grand honor to the late Taylor Hawkins at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.

Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated their win to Taylor Hawkins at the MTV VMAs

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were honored with the Global Icon Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The beloved rockers consist of Anthony Kiedis (lead), Chad Smith (drums), Flea (bass) and John Frusciante (guitar).

Also, they become the second winners of Global Icon in the United States of America.

However, in accepting the honor, Smith

he went on to dedicate the win to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

He mentioned: ‘There is another music icon, a global icon and his name is my brother Taylor Hawkins.’

The 60-year-old drummer continued: ‘I want to dedicate this to Taylor and his family. I love you, and I miss you every day. Fly, Falcon. Fly, brother.

If you didn’t know, Hawkins was found dead in a hotel room in Colombia this year in March. He passed away at the age of 50. Also, the Foo Fighters received the Global Icon award last year.

Before leaving with the award, the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage to perform their hit songs. They sang their recent track ‘Black Summer’ along with their classic single ‘Can’t Stop’, which was part of their 2002 album By the Way.

In addition, Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin presented them with the award. Regardless, Anthony Kiedis took the microphone first to thank the comedy icons and call them, ‘a bad mother…flip flops.’

Shortly after, the 59-year-old singer began his speech by saying, “I wanted to thank the sassy lover known as MTV for supporting us for a thousand years and more.”

He further added, “But I really, really, really want to thank Flea, John and Chad Smith… for giving me purpose in life for the last 40 years.” I would have been a floating mess in space if it wasn’t for these guys so thank you guys for giving me something to do with my life and my love.

Flea, on the other hand, proudly shared his love of ‘cockroaches, dirt, trees and all human beings’ as he thanked his bandmates and family.
