Johnny Depp Wins Over Amber Heard When Judge Rejects His Attempt To Dismiss His Defamation Lawsuit
Johnny Depp lost the libel case against The Sun Newspaper over claims that he punched Amber Heard. The newspaper claimed that he was a “wife beater” and was in favor of Amber Heard. Depp was fighting a two-year libel lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard. A Virginia judge decided to take the court case to another trial next year.
Heard’s motion to close or dismiss the case was denied by Chief Judge Penney Azcarate, Fairfox Country. Heard has tried to dismiss the case three times since March 2019, USA Today reports. The London judge said the “wife beater” quote was not defamatory. Most of Amber Heard’s domestic abuse allegations were primarily “civilian standard.”
Heard was not part of the London lawsuit, but was a witness for The Sun; therefore, their requests to dismiss the lawsuit failed under government standards. All of these firings for Heard create a huge victory for Depp in his ongoing war with his ex-wife. The lawsuits and cases began in 2016 during the couple’s divorce in California. The cases are still ongoing and will continue for the next 2-3 years depending on the new trial dates.
The case is scheduled for trial on April 11, 2022, in Fairfax County, Virginia’Washington’s largest and most populous county located in suburban Washington, DC Both sides will resume discovery procedures, such as taking depositions, including Heard’s. Virginia’s case began when Heard claimed in an article that she is now a public face of domestic abuse because of Johnny Depp.
A few months later, Johnny Depp filed a “false accusations” case, asking for $50 million in damages. He accused Heard of using it to straighten out his career and gain public sympathy and recognition. Heard has also filed restraining orders against Johnny Depp, claiming that he threw a mobile phone in her face at his Los Angeles loft.
Depp denies all these accusations and the Los Angeles police have also not found any evidence related to any abuse. Amber also claimed that she will be donating the divorce proceedings to a charity.
