Jared Leto’s Morbius bombed the box office again after Sony re-released it trying to capitalize on its viral memes

Jared Leto’s Morbius memes did not effectively engage netizens. Based on box office figures, viewers weren’t that eager to see revivals of him.

Sony recently re-released the comic book movie on theater screens this weekend. The movie previously garnered a horrific $73 million box office total after its domestic spring run.

Jared Leto taunts Morbius

Jared Leto recently took to Twitter to share a video of himself. The actor appears to be reading a script that he tries to hide from the cameraman.

However, it is later revealed to be a script titled ‘Morbius 2: It’s Morbin’ Time’ with the theme song Curb Your Enthusiasm playing in the background.

If you don’t know, Morbius memes went viral on the internet after their disastrous release. Regardless, Leto himself joined the Morbius sequel bandwagon when he captioned the clip with “What time is it?”.

The actor and the studio might have decided to return Morbius to theaters after his viral memes.

But the film failed again at the box office.

According to the Forbes report, the Morbius relaunch managed to gross just $85k on Friday. The total weekend gross for the film is unclear.

Jared Leto’s Morbius fails again

Jared Leto, starring Morbius, first hit theaters in April 2022. The film grossed $73 million domestically, while earning $163 million globally.

Regardless, the film faced disappointments from both critics and the box office.

Despite the negative reception, the film seemed to be a hot topic on the meme pages. More particularly, the phrase ‘It’s Morbin time’ was popular on social media platforms.

Thousands of memes and jokes flooded the For You pages of Instagram and other sites. Most of the memes were puns related to the unusual name of the main character.

However, some users sarcastically praised the movie and some users called on the creators to release a sequel. Memes were all over the internet, resulting in Morbius 2 trending online.

One user commented: “Morbius returning to theaters only to bomb again is one of the funniest things to happen in the entertainment industry in years.”

Another said: “The real challenge, if you’re willing to work, will be tricking them into releasing Morbius a third time.”
