Erich Schwer responds after being criticized for blackface school photo

Erich Schwer recently became a hot topic on social media after some controversial photos of him in high school started surfacing on the internet.

A Reddit user recently shared a traditional yearbook photo of Schwer where he appears to be in blackface.

Also, in the picture, Schwer wore an afro wig and paired it with dark-colored makeup on her face. Also, he was sporting a colorful shirt.

Schwer captioned the yearbook photo with a quote that read, “It was great.”

However, the 29-year-old real estate analyst quickly garnered tons of flak from social media users.

However, Schwer took to Instagram to apologize for his actions on Thursday afternoon. She shared an image of a blank black square.

Schwer described the post with a caption that read, “I sincerely apologize for the insensitive photo of me in Blackface from my high school yearbook that has been making the rounds.”

He added: “What I thought at the time was a representation of my love for Jimi Hendrix, it was nothing more than ignorance.”

Schwer further wrote: ‘I was naive to the harmful implications of my actions for the black community and those closest to me. I will always regret my offensive and harmful behavior.’

He concluded the message with: “I am deeply ashamed of my actions and understand that my apology is only the first step in taking responsibility.”

Social media users react to Erich Schwer’s apology

Many fans praised Erich Schwer for publicly apologizing for his mistake. They took to the comments section of his post to show their appreciation.

One fan said: ‘All it takes is admission and repentance. Keep it up, keep getting better!’

Also, someone else chimed in saying, ‘The best you can do right now just show that what you’re saying is serious about taking responsibility. That is the correct way to apologize. I wish you luck.’

However, despite Schwer’s apologies, many users were still unhappy as they continue to weigh in on the blackface image.

One user wrote: ‘I make Erich apologize for his blackface in high school. But let’s be honest, if that photo never came up again, he would never have apologized.”

Another user commented: “The bachelorette party will be a joke if they mention Nate and his two girlfriends and not Erich doing blackface in a YEARBOOK.”
