Calgary Hospital: Protest Against ‘Medical Tyranny’ Outside Hospital
Calgary Hospital: On Monday, some frontline Canadian nurses and staff staged a protest against the Canadian government’s vaccine mandates. They called this step a “medical tyranny” of the government.
The demonstration took place in front of Calgary’s Foothills Medical Center. The protesters claim that requiring vaccinations for everyone, including health workers and others, is a violation of their basic freedom rights. Therefore, they called this demonstration a protest for National Health Freedom Movement.
Claims of the protesters
A large number of protesters gathered outside the Calgary hospital to safeguard their rights. According to protesters, a gap is being created between ‘vaccinated’ and ‘unvaccinated’ people. People who are not getting vaccinated are slowly being marginalized by society. Therefore, the compulsion to get vaccinated by the government is creating a division in society. One of the protesters said: “They are not allowed to speak, we are only allowed to say a point of view and I don’t think it is correct.”
The protesters claim that in a democracy everyone should have the right to decide what to do and what not to do. Therefore, the government cannot dictate them. Whereas, another protester, Trevor Simpson, said the government was forcing them to get vaccinated. Therefore, they demanded that the government should not dictate to people to get vaccinated. So it must be your choice.
What do the police say?
According to police, the protesters are creating chaos outside the Calgary hospital. They are using violent means to protest. One of the Calgary Police Service officers said they respect people’s right to protest. But, they would not tolerate any kind of actions that may cause inconvenience to the patients.
CPS also said it has spoken with protest organizers to get everything under control. Meanwhile, they have also called for more officers at the scene.
On the other hand, Alberta Health Services recognizes the fact that they would not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment of patients. They are “extremely disappointed” with the protesters. AHS has also installed fencing to protect its employees and patients.
What do others think of the protest?
While everyone recognizes the right of people to protest, creating chaos in the hospital is completely unacceptable. AHS also said its healthcare workers are working around the clock at this unprecedented time of COVID-19
.
Meanwhile, AHS also said: “If you oppose masking, vaccinations or any other measures taken to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, it is your right, but attacking healthcare workers with anger and virulence is not accepted.” . Protesters blocked the passage of an ambulance that is “definitely not peaceful.”
Alberta Justice Minister Kaycee Madu voiced her opposition to the protest. In her tweet, she mentioned that the police should intervene if necessary. She considers that protesting in front of the Calgary hospital is unethical.
Whereas, Elle O’Greysik, who is a Nursing Educator at Macewan University, also made her statement. She said: “It causes a lot of anger when you find out you have an unvaccinated patient.” Furthermore, she also said that despite having the opportunity to get vaccinated and stay well, people protest against it.
