‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ Moves Up To No. 4 Biggest Movie Ever Global, Beaten Out Force Awakens, Star Wars, and Jurassic World

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water became the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time, and it has now surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens in terms of worldwide earnings. And as expected, has now surfed to the No. 4 position on the all-time chart. This means that Avatar now has over $2.075 billion in total revenue.

The four movies at the top of the box office are all movies made by James Cameron. Way of Water, which recently made more than two billion dollars at the international box office, is fourth on the list. Behind these three movies are two other James Cameron movies.

Oscar-nominated films are often predicted to make a lot of money after the Academy Awards on March 12th, and Avatar 2 is expected to be one of the biggest beneficiaries. Avatar 2 still has a lot of theaters showing the film in IMAX and premium large format (PLF). I heard they are giving up their Dolby screens to Universal’s upcoming film, Knock at the Cabin, which is hopefully going to give the box office some life in the winter. The box office is expected to start booming in the Presidents Day weekend with the start of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

This weekend, there were no major studio wide theatrical releases, so all of the films are looking at around a $71.2M take. This is up a great 103% from last year, when the marketplace was shackled by the release of the movie “Omicron”. All of the films are now earning a total of $35M.

Yash Raj’s Pathaan opened in 694 theaters in 162 markets on Wednesday, and is expected to earn $8.4 million by Sunday. The movie is in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, and has been very well-received in Toronto, NYC, Chicago, Dallas, Vancouver, San Francisco, and Seattle. The movie follows an Indian spy who takes on the leader of a group of mercenaries, they having nefarious plans to target his homeland.
